My mother-in-law (Janet) is a mind reader when it comes to Christmas. She pays close attention to all of us throughout the year, taking notes so she can get the perfect gifts for each of us. This year, she was a little hesitant about her decision as I opened my last gift. It was an absolutely beautiful, pale pink nightgown. I was ecstatic! I have been gushing over vintage nightgowns and robes for some time, but never wanted to spend money on them because I think that I act like a grandma most of the time already...so a nightgown may have just thrown me over the edge at age 31.
I opened the gift with excitement (to Janet's relief). She said she could picture me lounging in it in the morning while writing and having a coffee. Want to know what happened? I wore it the same night I got it and in the morning, Joel caught me doing just what Janet had predicted...nightgown, writing, coffee...She knows me, what can I say?!

My family killed it this year with gifts. We got many necessities (my preference) along with some items we requested. I already expressed my love for blanket scarves on the blog, but I'm embarrassed to admit, I didn't have a true, big, cozy blanket scarf of my own. But thanks to my father- and mother-in-law, I now have an "official" blanket scarf! I wore it the day after I got it and was as in love with it as I imagined I would be.
There are so many ways to style this type of scarf. Check out 20 ways here: http://www.gurl.com/2014/12/20/style-tips-on-how-to-wear-tie-blanket-scarf-outfit-ideas/ I'm a preppy, punk rock girl at heart, so I love mixing edgy pieces with girly touches. We attended 'The Rat Pack is Back' at Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids. I pulled together an outfit that was both classy and edgy. I wore an asymmetrical black blazer over a long grey t-shirt along with my leggings that could easily pass for leather. My accessory was a delicate pink necklace and my shoes were pink Madewell wedges that I scored for a ridiculously low price at a consignment shop. If I could live in an outfit, it would be this one!
One of my favorite things to do is visit consignment and vintage shops. When we visit my wonderful mother-in-law in Cedar Rapids, we get to do a lot of shop hopping. There are a lot of really great places to go. When we go, comfort is key. You may not love high heeled sneakers, but I love them. It's like wearing a comfy shoe, and at the same time, you feel feminine with the addition of the heel. I paired these with the torn jeans (that you'll see often), a red t-shirt, vintage blanket scarf, and my good ol' pleather jacket. I also rocked some deep red lipstick from Mary Kay. My friend Lexie gave me this lipstick, and I've loved it! It lasts a long time and it keeps a glossy look. The color is Berry Dazzle!
We took a day trip to Des Moines to do some shopping and experience our first sensory deprivation tank float. My brown boots are my go-to footwear for days when I want to look pulled together and feel comfortable when I know I'll be walking a lot. I picked up the quartz necklace while in Des Moines at Hill Vintage & Knits. It became the perfect addition to my outfit!
If you can't already tell from my title - I LOVE blanket scarves. They are warm, cozy, and so versatile. Today, I paired my infinity blanket scarf with a comfy grey v-neck t-shirt, camel wool blazer, my favorite pair of jeans, and dark camel ankle boots. This outfit was just right for the unseasonably warm weather we've been experiencing in Iowa. It still feels like Fall, which is fine by me because it allows me to wear my stylish blazers, scarves, and boots just a little bit longer! In no time, I'll be putting on anything and everything to keep me dry and warm.
