If I need a laugh or a pick-me-up, the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast is my go-to.
The format of the show is celebrity interviews. Many are Amy's friends in comedy, while others are people she admires. In true Amy style, she kicks the show off by interviewing a person who knows her guest to "talk well about them behind their back." She takes notes and questions into the interview with the guest, which is a nice touch and always a positive surprise for whomever she talks with. She is a humble host, handling mistakes with grace and going with the flow, very vulnerable and human. There is most certainly not a script (which I love) and her charm would win over the toughest critic. I have been sort of burnt out on celebrity-centric podcasts, but this one has been different. There is no pretentiousness - the biggest turn off for me in a podcast. Conversations are light, fun, and, many times, unexpectedly reflective and meaningful. The podcast recently won a Golden Globe - so I'm not the only person who think it rocks!
