I really like crop tops, but I've never felt like I could pull one off. I'm too "large," too "old," etc. Blah, blah, blah. Well you know what. I gave a crop top a test run, and I loved it! I didn't get too crazy with it, but for me, showing any amount of my stomach (outside of wearing a swimming suit) feels risqué! The crop top I wore was actually a t-shirt knotted on the side to create the look of a crop top. I paired it with a full skirt that hit me in a very flattering part of my stomach. And although it's technically Fall around here, I wore a pair of black sandals because it was a nice, warm day out. I especially loved the skirt. It is a vintage skirt I bought at an estate sale in Wisconsin this past Summer. It is a light, linen material, buttons up the front, and the print is gardening themed. If you're like me, and have been hesitant to plunge into the crop top world - join me! No matter your size, age, etc., if styled correctly, a crop top can look good on anyone. I must say, I felt pretty confident, cute, and stylish - it was totally worth the risk!

I'm a Fall girl to my core, but I'm having a hard time accepting that Summer is almost over...Summer at The Farm is the best season. I think what I'll miss most is walking around barefoot in my garden. To lift my spirits about the inevitable end of this lovely time of year, I put on my new floral dress and had a photo shoot! This post is for styling inspiration only - I don't have outfit details - and here's why: The dress I am wearing came from a very unexpected place...the Gift Shop where I work, Covenant Medical Center! They have special order, "boutique" style clothing, so I have no idea how to tell you where to go for it! And the booties, I've had for years. They are awful to walk in (I almost broke my ankle walking in our yard with them) but they are one pair that I just can't part with. If I remember right, they were from Target. I love how this dress is light and easy. It's just the right length and I love the peek-a-boo cutout in the front. I usually shy away from sleeveless dresses because I am insecure about my arms, but I made an exception for this dress! I picture myself transitioning it into winter by wearing an olive green cardigan, black tights and heels with it. Here's a close-up of the print and of the booties: Those booties are so cute though, right?! And here's one more, with our new family member, Homer, stealing the show!
Ilana Glazer is both a fashion inspiration and girl crush of mine! There's a lot to like about her - smart, witty, original - but also, cute as a button. She seems really authentic in the way she presents herself, and since that's something I'm personally working on, I think that's what really attracts me to her. I recently went to see the latest movie she is in, Rough Night. Overall, pretty good. Think female version of The Hangover with a slightly darker twist. Although the movie didn't necessarily "move me," I did walk away with something - some serious outfit ideas based on what Ilana's character wore. See below for some of my favorites (don't mind the facial expressions, it's hard to find quality screen grabs from movies!): Although the outfits may seem pretty basic and casual, I liked the effortless edginess of them. Even when I'm at my most casual, I always think about being on trend. I've mimicked her style recently by pairing a grey t-shirt with (tinier than I'm usually comfortable with) black shorts and a dark grey hoodie tied around my waist - topping it all off with black Converse high tops. I also really like her hair because it's the same as mine - super curly! When I inevitably cut my hair short in the future, I'm going to consider letting my curls fly free like hers! Which celebrity's style are you really digging right now?
After a weekend of play in Chicago visiting "The Rolling Stones Exhibitionism" I was feeling very rock and roll!
I absolutely love the Stones' logo. There's something very rebellious and naughty about it. Two things that I am not, but wish I was. So wearing it on my clothes at least makes me feel like I am. I've been into old t-shirts a lot lately - especially my husband's old t-shirts! This is one of his. I combined it with a pair of Old Navy ripped jeans I've had forever, some black flats and my new favorite accessory, a classic, navy blue bandanna. I received several compliments on this look on our way home. It was extremely comfortable to travel in, made me feel like the punk rock city girl I am at heart, and paid homage to my guys, The Rolling Stones. Weddings, graduations and getaways are in full swing. We're already booked every weekend through July! Our first big event was the wedding of our sweet friends, Ryan and Sarah. The whole affair was simple and classic. Good weather, good ceremony, good company. I was in tears watching Sarah come down the isle to the song "Here Comes the Sun" in her lovely dress, her dad on her arm, smiling from ear to ear, with the sunlight glowing through her blonde hair. And the vows. The most genuine vows I have ever witnessed. I love love - and these two together are spilling over with it! I kept it light and easy with my outfit, taking inspiration from Joel's outfit for my accessories. The shirt I wore is actually a shirt dress! It was a tad bit too short for a wedding, so I opted to layer a longer, more appropriate, skirt over it. The shirt dress is from JCPenney and the skirt is from Old Navy. To tie my outfit with Joel's, I chose a caramel brown (my favorite tone of brown) leather belt and heels. The belt actually came with the shirt dress and the shoes are also from JCPenney. All discount finds at the time I am sure!
I ended up matching quite nicely with my hubby. We enjoyed our evening together so much. I count myself lucky that he is mine everyday! Here's a picture of us in all of our cuteness! Oh hey, Spring! May flowers and sunshine have me dressing in full color almost everyday. This outfit is just one example of the fun combinations I've been putting together. The floral shirt and nude flats are Target finds from a few seasons back but they normally always have similar products on hand, like this shirt and these shoes - modern spins on classics that are always in style. The pants are a major score from Old Navy for only $3.00. Always check the sales racks. I was about to spend $30+ dollars on similar pants, but found four pairs of really nice, structured ankle pants for under $12 total! Here's a close-up of the outfit detail: How are you dressing for Spring?!
Downsizing my closet has challenged me to get creative with what I have. I was scrolling through my Pinterest for some fashion ideas and couldn't help but start yearning for spring. Light jackets. Exposed legs. Exposed arms. Ahhh.
The outfits that caught my eye don't look traditionally "springy," but to me, they seem like the perfect transition outfits into spring. I spotted many items I already have that I can put together to create these looks! I love the girly touches mixed with edgy pieces. Sweet and Sassy. Always the perfect balance. I've been anxious to post an outfit with my new babies - black Converse high tops (aka Chuck Taylors; aka Cons). I've literally wanted these shoes for over a year. I finally pulled the trigger and got them. They are just as wonderful as I imagined they would be.
I'm still trying out different ways to wear them, the photo above was the first time I wore them out of the house. I paired them with a shirt dress from Target that I knotted at the hip to give me a little more shape. The pleather jeggings are also from Target. They are fleece lined and super comfortable. The only other item I paired with the outfit was a necklace my mom gave me for Christmas that carries a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt on it. I'm excited to play around with these shoes as the weather warms up. Cons are my go-to sneaker, I now have two pairs to get me around. Below are some close-ups of the outfit! Joel labeled the outfit I'm sharing today as my "riding outfit." I see it! Thus the title. But unfortunately, no horses were ridden in this outfit. We were asked to dress "business casual" for our volunteer duties at the Grout Museum over the weekend, so this is what I came up with. An outfit that is young, comfortable, and as Joel pointed out, very "equestrian." The houndstooth blazer I have on is my tried and true. It is from H&M and has been one of my go-tos for probably a good eight years now. The reason I like it so much is so much is definitely the print and the cut. The print transitions really well from casual to professional. The cut adds shape to whatever outfit I'm wearing. I also machine washed it as needed and it has held up really well over time. I don't have the money to dry clean everything, so it's been nice to be able to wash it on my own. I paired the blazer with a navy blue, semi-sheer button up with a collar from Old Navy. The pants are black jeggings from Old Navy. The brown boots are ones you've seen before in previous posts (and are on their last leg...so, so sad) from JCPenney. I'm a big fan of wearing black and brown together. A lot of people don't like it, but I look at it this way - wild cats have brown and black stripes/spots - it is a natural color combination! Here's a close-up of the blazer print and collared shirt: And here's me and my dog, Madison. She wanted in on the fun!
Fall is my favorite season and Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. When both things pass, I tend to feel a little down. So to curb my impending sad feelings, I decided to dress up a bit on Thanksgiving.
The outfit I wore is styled similarly to my last post. Same scarf, same belt, same boots. But can we appreciate this dress?! Another beautiful find from Orange Possum. This dress was warm, flowing, and forgiving as my belly grew larger from all of the indulgence. I tried something new with the triangle blanket scarf (that I got many compliments on). Instead of wrapping it around my neck, I chose to drape it over my shoulders and belt it at my waist. It ended up looking like a long vest from the front. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday full of love, memories and gratitude! |
